This can be achieved because when a file gets deleted it get de linked from the allocation table but the memory it occupies does not get blank but it is given a mark that this space is free. So, the recovery software finds the free links and search information in it. But if you have written some data onto the disk after the deletion, then the chance of the data getting overwritten on the deleted file increase and chance of windows xp data recovery decreases.
