Inkjet printers whether wide format or normal suffers from a universal drawback though it gives very high quality output. The drawback relates to use of ink. First of all the ink contents in the traditional cartridge are quite low and after around eighty pages of printing, your printer starts returning white pages. Mimaki, Epson, HP and Encad all suffers from this syndrome. There is also an apprehension of misuse or overflowing of the ink. At times the cartridge being damaged, cause the leakage and spilling of colors inside the machine jamming it in the process.
You can of course visit an Encad parts stores physically or obtain the replacement cartridge by ordering online. However, the replacement ink cartridge for an inkjet printer has never been an economic proposition. In some cases you can even purchase a brand new printer at the same cost at which you procure a couple of inkjet printer cartridges.
That is why despite the popularity of Encad , Mimaki, and Epson inkjet printers, users do not prefer to frequently replace the cartridges. This is also one reason why the other two types of printers, namely, the dot matrix and laser printers were gaining in popularity compared to inkjet printers sometimes back despite the fact that neither could produce the quality of printing output by an inkjet printer.
Finding this trend in the market, many manufacturers started to replace the ink cartridge system with bulk ink system where the ink goes directly into the printer from the ink bottle and no cartridge replacement is warranted.
