DVDs are commonly known as Digital Versatile Discs and also Digital Video Discs. They are the most popular medium for storage and transportation of data today. With dvd software easily available in your computers, you can easily carry around data by writing the data using a DVd burning software. Let’s take a brief look at some important terms you might come across while using DVDs.

DVD: Although many people claim it to stand for Digital Versatile Disc and many say its Digital Video Disc, however according to the DVD Forum, it stands for nothing, its just DVD.

DVD COPY SOFTWARE:

It is computer software one uses to write data onto a recordable disc.

DVD BURNING: It is the process of writing data onto a disc. The name is derived from the actual process, in which plastic is burned by the laser to write data.

SL: It stands for Single Layer. It’s a disc which has only one physical layer to record data

DL: It stands for Dual Layer. It actually has a second physical layer within the same disc.

DVD-RW: It’s the name of the rewriteable disc. Data can be written and erased from the same disc many times.

HD-DVD: It is a newer version of DVD, it stands for High-Definition DVD. It has a capacity of 15GB, in a single layer format.
